As resort villages go, the Town of Banff is Granddaddy of them all. A national treasure, it’s one of the only incorporated municipalities located inside a Canadian national park. At 3 million visitors every year, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most visited destinations in North America. 3DS was commissioned with a massive 6-year project to completely redo all civic signage for the town.
This is where our long experience with resort villages came in. The contract called for us to value-engineer and implement a cohesive program for all wayfinding and street signage. Designed by Entro Communications, the hierarchical family of signs perfectly fit the tone and character of other municipal graphics and had to make sense to visitors from all over the world. Just as important, all sign fabrication had to be durable enough to withstand Banff’s harsh mountain climate in deepest winter.
