The Vancouver Canucks “Hall of Heroes” is defined by many things, notably its dramatic and innovative use of light. This interactive sports exhibit is aglow from floor to ceiling with lighting-related ingenuity. The project began with content developed by Montréal lighting effects firm, Moment Factory, with exhibit design by Vancouver’s Karo Design.
The exhibit itself is a permanent attraction in Rogers Arena, Vancouver’s largest stadium and home of the Vancouver Canucks. It looks back over the illustrious lives and careers of the team’s three greatest players, Trevor Linden, Stan Smyl and Marcus Naslund; it looks forward in its presentation of their stories, with interactive display technology implemented on a scale not seen in sports exhibits of the past. A towering 7-foot HD display dominates the entry point, while an array of smaller interactive stations provide visitors access to a wealth of rich biographical material. The futuristic aspects are balanced by numerous historic artifacts, lovingly preserved and presented. A standout feature is Trevor Linden’s actual locker & change area, configured exactly as it was – with the addition of yet more interactive screens. Even the floor looks for all the world like a true NHL hockey rink, complete with scuffs & scratches.
